Background and Purpose of Request
Staff recommends adopting the proposed “#23: Artificial Intelligence Policy” to establish rules governing the use of generative artificial intelligence tools by County officials and employees. While there are many benefits to leveraging AI technology to enhance County operations and services, the unprecedented growth of AI has raised significant risks around privacy, government accountability, and security.
The proposed Policy intends to establish safeguards around the use of AI tools that generate text images or other digital content used by County officials and employees when conducting County business. These safeguards include: IT department review and approval before a new AI tool can be used on county computer systems, guidance on the use of AI tools, and mandatory human review of AI generated output.
