body

Background and Purpose of Request:

Requestor: Sheriff Joyce

Background:

Workshop prior to the regular scheduled meeting.

The Sheriff has submitted a request to the County Commissioners for permission to apply to the Maine Recovery Council for grant funding.  The intent of the application is to seek funding in support of Sublocade treatment at the County Jail.  Sublocade is a monthly methadone shot, versus providing the pill form to inmates.

This funding request was not submitted or reviewed by the County’s Grants Committee prior to submitting the Letter of Intent in June.  The Grants Committee has to this date not reviewed the request and the item has been requested by the Sheriff to be placed on the agenda for Commissioner action.

The Chairman has requested a 5:30 pm Workshop to hear the proposal by the Sheriff.

The grant request would be a two-year request of $360,000.00 per year.  It is unknown the funding mechanism year three and beyond.

The Sheriff’s Office submitted a Letter of Intent to the Council and has been invited into the application stage that opens up in the next two weeks.

Public Health Director Liz Blackwell-Moore is a member of the Maine Recovery Council and reports that there is upwards of 200 applications being invited into the application process totaling 40 million dollars.  Four million is available this year.  The Recovery Council will have open application periods annually.

This item will appear on the agenda for any action the Commissioner want to take.
