Agenda Item Request:

title

Authorization for the Public Health Department to apply for SAMHSA Grant

body

Background and Purpose of Request:

Requestor: Alex Kimkball, Deputy County Manager

Please see the attached memo for Liz Blackwell-Moore describing the nature of this grant, and the plan for implementation in detail.  This would be similar to some of the work being performed by the Maine Prevention Network grant, and would add to these efforts.

The deadline to apply for this grant is unfortunately one day after the March 17, 2025 Commissioners meeting, which is cutting it far too close, particularly since the portals for these grants tend to get overloaded to the point of failure as deadlines draw close.  Thus, this item is a late addition to the February agenda.

Funding Amount and Source:

Based on the population of Cumberland County, the Public Health Department would be eligible for $425,000 per year for 5 years totaling $2,125,000. If awarded, the project would begin October 1, 2025 and run through September, 2030.

Effective Date if Applicable:
