Background and Purpose of Request

The County Sheriff’s Office has received a check from State of Maine, specifically from MDEA asset disbursement. The check is for $2,631.00 and it was seized as a result of an incident that occurred in 2023.

On July 12th, 2023, the CCSO conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Brunswick on I295. The driver of the vehicle was arrested on various charges. Seized from the vehicle was $2,631.00 US Currency, Illegal narcotics (Cocaine), 2 firearms.  The defendant listed in this Approval of Transfer document was eventually convicted in Portland Unified Court. In addition to the conviction, the Attorney General’s Office moved to order the forfeiture of the US Currency seized from Defendant Justin Williams.

I recommend that we accept the $2,631.00 of US currency, and use those funds to purchase equipment to assist in the further investigation of crimes committed in Cumberland County.
