Background and Purpose of Request:
The enclosed 2025/2026 General Fund, Jail and Cross Insurance Arena budgets are brought forth for ratification by the County Commissioners.
Needless to say, this budget was no easy process. Staff were presented with challenges across the budget on fixed cost increases, while entering a year where four union contracts would be negotiated. The Total Needs from Taxes are $42,119,605, a 7.74% increase from the 2024/2025 budget year. This budget proposes to exceed the Jail Tax Limitation CAP of 4%, which the Commissioners will have to do a separate authorization order to approve.
County staff worked with the appointed Finance Committee over three meetings in December and January. On January 21, 2025, the Finance Committee pass along a 4-0 positive recommendation on the proposed budget to the Commissioners.
The enclosed budget has not changed since staff presented the budget in November of 2024.
